Roadwork Ahead: Middle Tennessee Traffic Cautions for October 19–24 |
I-65 bridge repairs, overnight resurfacing and a BNA garage access change could affect commutes this week |

Middle Tennessee drivers should prepare for overnight lane restrictions and changing traffic patterns during the week of October 19–24 as crews continue bridge repairs, resurfacing and other road projects.
The biggest Nashville-area caution remains Interstate 65 near Hamilton Avenue, where bridge construction follows a weekend interstate closure.
TDOT scheduled the full I-65 closure to end at 5 a.m. Monday, October 19, but intermittent overnight lane restrictions are expected afterward while crews rebuild the bridge deck.
Motorists should not confuse those overnight restrictions with a weeklong full closure of the interstate.
Hamilton Avenue itself remains closed at the bridge during construction, with Chestnut Street and Wedgewood Avenue serving as nearby crossings.
Interstate 65 in Williamson County also has resurfacing work that may affect nighttime travel and interchange access.
Drivers passing through downtown Nashville should watch for scheduled overnight work along I-40, especially where lane configurations change near interchanges.
Additional work is scheduled along Nolensville Road and Thompson Lane, including resurfacing that may reduce travel lanes at night.
Travelers heading toward the airport have a separate change to remember beginning October 20.
At Nashville International Airport, drivers entering Terminal Garage 1 will instead use the Terminal Garage 2 entrance and access connecting levels to reach Garage 1 parking.
The Garage 1 parking spaces remain available even though the original direct entrance is closing during construction.
Allow extra time when traveling to an appointment, airport departure or evening event, especially if your usual route passes through a major work zone.
Construction schedules are weather dependent and may change with little notice.
TDOT urges drivers to obey posted work-zone speed limits, move over when appropriate and watch carefully for crews and shifting lanes.
Before leaving, review current roadway conditions through the TDOT SmartWay traffic map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
Checking the route before heading out is the simplest way to avoid an unexpected detour or delay. |
