The newest sign of Middle Tennessee's growing role in the food-service industry is not another restaurant dining room, but a corporate office in Franklin.

In-N-Out Burger opened its Eastern U.S. headquarters on October 26, establishing a base for expansion beyond its longtime Western markets.

The roughly 90,255-square-foot office sits near the chain's Franklin restaurant, creating a regional center for business functions that support its restaurants.

The headquarters will work with a distribution operation in Lebanon as the company builds its presence across Tennessee and neighboring markets.

Corporate positions are expected to span functions such as operations, information technology, human resources, and other administrative work.

The company has said that staffing will grow over time through hiring and relocations rather than arriving at full capacity on opening day.

That distinction matters for Williamson County, where the opening represents a longer-term employment presence as well as a high-profile investment.

The Franklin office follows the company's first Middle Tennessee restaurant openings, including the Franklin location earlier this year.

For local diners, the familiar red-and-yellow restaurant signs may be the most visible part of the expansion.

For the regional economy, however, the office is the bigger structural change: decisions and support work for eastern operations will now have a home in Middle Tennessee.

The new corporate facility also provides a foundation for planned restaurant locations elsewhere in the area.

Residents interested in employment should look for official company opportunities as positions are announced, since timing and the number of openings can change.

The Franklin headquarters is another indication that Middle Tennessee continues to attract businesses looking for a base to serve a much wider region.
