A larger storefront in Franklin could mean much more than extra room to shop.

GraceWorks Ministries has expanded its Southeast Parkway facility from about 25,000 to 65,000 square feet, creating capacity for both its thrift store and community assistance programs.

The new footprint more than doubles the previous space and helps the nonprofit process donated goods while serving families who need everyday support.

The thrift store is a key source of funding for GraceWorks programs, so added retail space can also support the mission behind the counter.

Shoppers will find expanded areas for furniture, clothing, antiques and children's items, along with additional categories such as tools and outdoor furniture.

The women's boutique has grown too, offering more space for clothing, accessories and household finds.

Behind the sales floor, additional food storage and processing space should help staff and volunteers respond to requests for pantry assistance.

The organization says its programs provide food, shelter and other help to nearly 15,000 people each year.

That work depends heavily on donated merchandise, financial contributions and the time of community volunteers.

One practical improvement is a larger donation area, intended to make drop-offs and sorting more manageable.

GraceWorks has also expanded Wednesday evening pantry availability and is exploring ways to reach underserved neighborhoods.

For residents, the expanded store is both a bargain-hunting destination and a route to helping neighbors.

Households with gently used goods to donate can consider the Franklin location, while shoppers can support the organization through purchases.

The need for assistance does not disappear when a store gets bigger, but the extra space gives volunteers and staff more flexibility to meet it.

The expansion offers a timely reminder that local retail activity can have a direct community-service purpose.
